While they focus on improving in the field, Norvell decided to bring in former quarterback Jordan Travis to speak with the team. When speaking to reporters about it, Norvell said that Travis spoke to players on Thursday. In his message, Travis emphasized that he felt the trips down to Jacksonville helped determine Florida State's season.

Florida State's Jacksonville trip can be a springboard to success
Travis was a Seminole for five years, but his last three seasons came under Norvell. The first year was uneven, going 5-7, but the 2022 and 2023 seasons were magical. Florida State finished with a 23-4 record, marking back-to-back double-digit win seasons.
The former signal caller was a difference-maker for this team, and he still recalls the team trips down to Jacksonville, which have become a tradition under Norvell. Each fall camp, Norvell takes the team down to the University of North Florida, where they practice and stay for a couple of days.
Norvell wants the team to take this trip as a road game, where they have to perform in unfamiliar environments and conditions. When the season rolls around, you never know what will come your way, so Norvell uses this time to get his team some extra reps in that area.
This isn't a time of camp that players shouldn't take seriously, and Travis' statement to them shows how important it is. The mindset that's crafted during this uncomfortable time can carry into the campaign.
There are some new faces around this team, with 23 incoming transfers and 24 players from their 2025 recruiting class. It's an influx of new voices and players that the Seminoles need to get back to their old form under Norvell.
What this team does on the field this fall will determine whether the 2026 season is a success or not. Yet, it still shouldn't take away the importance of this little getaway. The best teams take every practice and every rep to heart.
What's built during the offseason is what carries over to the season and onto the field. Going through adversity is what makes teams closer, and the trip down to Jacksonville is an example of that.
The Seminoles can't afford to have another underwhelming season, and Norvell knows it. He needs everyone to bring their best foot forward, so getting his former quarterback, Travis, to speak is huge.
He secured plenty of wins under Norvell's guidance, and he wants to see the kind of success back in Tallahassee. The players on the roster should take his message seriously and apply the lessons learned to the gridiron.
