In a version of college football where loyalty usually matters very little, Florida State is very lucky to have a player like Jayvan Boggs on the roster. After a quiet 2025 campaign, Boggs has finally started to flash the talent that made so many people excited about his future in Tallahassee. Now, the receiver aims to carry that success into a difficult ACC stretch for Florida State.

It was not always a given that Boggs was going to return to the Seminoles in 2026. After the disappointments surrounding 2025 overall in Tallahassee, it would've been little surprise to see Boggs enter the portal and try to find success with a team that was actually in contention elsewhere. He wouldn't be the first.

However, instead of jumping ship when it was easy, the freshman eventually decided to return to Florida State and build on his talent and skill set to grow as a player, and grow Boggs has. You have to look no further than the stats to see just how different this year has been.

In 2025, Boggs had nine receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. Not terrible for a freshman on a team that had some veteran receivers to lean on, but still probably not what most people expected. However, in 2026, Boggs has completely flipped the script, already recording 240 yards on 12 receptions and matching his 2025 total with a touchdown in half as many games.

Boggs was FSU's leading receiver in yards and catches versus Central Arkansas, even beating out Duce Robinson, and is quickly cementing himself as one of Ashton Daniels' favorite targets.

While some fans would rule out this success given the talent of the opponent, results like this are still worth considering. The way that Boggs contested the ball in tighter windows and created space in the open field will absolutely help against all talent in college football. In addition, Boggs and Daniels are growing more confident in their connection which can carry over into future matchups, and this could already be seen after the game against Virginia, where Boggs received multiple targets.

One way or another, growth has taken place, and it is nice to see FSU developing a player that was recruited rather than simply jumping to the portal after another down year. If Mike Norvell were able to do this consistently at other positions, perhaps the current state of the FSU football program would be very different.
