The Rams could end up regretting this trade for Myles Garrett.

Florida State football has not been the same since former defensive end Jared Verse wore the Garnet and Gold in 2023. Verse was brought in via the transfer portal from Albany and was a man on a mission when it came to rushing the passer.

Verse made headlines with the news that he would be returning for another season in Tallahassee when the 2022 campaign could have made his NFL dreams turn into a reality. The defensive end finished his two-year Florida State career with 89 tackles (29.5 for loss) and 18 sacks (according to stats-reference.com).

This allowed Verse to be selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. It was an intriguing pick for the Rams because it seemed as though they were turning the page into a new era after defensive end Aaron Donald retired.

The Rams drafted former Florida State teammates Jared Verse and Braden Fiske, who were already close friends, making them a tremendous duo for Seminole fans to pull for.

The Rams finished with a 12-5 record this past season and lost in the NFL Conference Championship Game to the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 31-27. Verse had a phenomenal 2025 campaign, where he recorded 58 tackles (11 for loss) and 7.5 sacks (according to pro-football-reference.com).

Former Florida State defensive end Jared Verse is now a Cleveland Brown

Unfortunately, a bombshell in the NFL trade world dropped, as Verse has been traded to the Cleveland Browns in a deal for the Los Angeles Rams to acquire superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett.

I get that Garrett is an excellent defensive end who is in the prime of his career. However, Verse was just starting to pick up steam in his professional career. The Browns are a solid team, but the Rams were virtually in win-now mode with their older roster.

It is a shame that the Rams decided to trade the former Florida State star that is five years younger than Garrett.
