Its time for Florida State men's basketball team to make the right decision

It's time for a change in Florida State men's basketball.

I wrote about the Florida State men's basketball suffering a heartbreaking defeat to a struggling Boston College squad on the road.

I had to hold back some of my thoughts due to the result being fresh in my mind, and the emotions come out when losses happen that are inexcusable.

I am not one of those individuals who grab my pitch forks and call for everyone to get fired. With that being said, head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton is in the last year of his contract and it seems highly likely that the Seminoles will move on from him at the end of the season.

Florida State men's basketball has not made the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-2021 season. That seems like such a long time ago. Since then, the Seminoles went 17-14 in 2021-2022, 9-23 in 2022-2023, 17-16 in 2023-2024, and are currently sitting with a 13-9 record this year.

This year's squad earlier in the year had me thinking that they had an outside shot at making the NCAA Tournament, which would have been so exciting in what could be Hamilton's farewell tour.

However, Florida State has dropped five of its last six games and has a 4-7 conference record. I think that athletic director Michael Alford should have made a public announcement that this would be Hamilton's final year to give him the respect that he deserves after 14 years at the university.

After Florida State's loss to Boston College on Saturday, I don't think that the Seminoles have enough in the tank to push through the adversity. Forwards Malique Ewin and Jamir Watkins have been sensational this year, but the squad's efforts have not been enough to push through in a year in which the ACC has struggled.

That loss to Boston College was embarrassing on all levels, and it should light a fire under the administration that it is time for massive changes.

I fully expect Florida State to move on from Coach Hamilton and go in a different direction. It has been a good, long run, but the time is now to make a change and get the Seminoles to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament for future seasons.
