Let's face it, head football coach Mike Norvell is sliding on thin ice with some of the fan base after what transpired during the 2024 season. A 2-10 record is unthinkable for a Florida State program that is used to competing for conference and national championships.
The fan base is in an uproar (rightfully so). Norvell was once regarded as one of the up-and-coming head football coaches in college football. Now, the Seminoles are seen as one of the laughing stocks by individuals such as ESPN's Paul Finebaum and Greg McElroy.
The Vegas over/under win total is set at 7.5, which should give the fans more optimism for the season. However, individuals are seeing bad news left and right about the program, where offensive lineman Jaylen Early as wide receivers Hykeem Williams, Jaylin Brown, and Jordan Scott have entered the transfer portal.
Mike Norvell was once regarded as a very skillful acquirer of the transfer portal. There were even some who thought he obtained transfers better than he did high school recruits. The recency basis is there since the transfer class in the 2024 offseason did not pan out well at all.
The coaching staff prioritized potential over production. The Seminoles have sixteen transfers on the roster right now, but there are holes at wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, and even defensive back that fans would like to see them obtain.
It has been a slow rate in getting transfers on campus. Some of the fan base is starting to worry about the lack of portal pickups from Florida State.
However, I am in the thought process that the program is not trying to jump at the first opportunity to grab someone and make a massive mistake. Plus, with the events that happened with Thursday's shooting on campus, the coaching staff is not allowed back in the building until Monday.
I believe that the Seminoles get a wide receiver, a versatile offensive lineman (hybrid guard/tackle), and a defensive end before the spring concludes. Transfers have until April 25th to enter the transfer portal (unless you are a graduate transfer).
Let's take a breath of fresh air and relax. It is just the offseason.
