FSU FOOTBALL OFFENSE IN 2024

Florida State football's offense was abysmal last year. The coaching staff made headlines last offseason with the pick-up of transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. There were rumblings that they were involved with signal-caller Cam Ward, but he ended up going to Miami and succeeding there.

While this isn't CaneChat and I don't like to highlight the Miami football program, Ward was the better quarterback than Uiagalelei (obviously). The Seminoles finished with 15.2 points per game last season. It didn't help that Uiagalelei suffered a season-ending injury versus SMU and youngsters Luke Kromenhoek and Brock Glenn had to step in for relief.

IN COMES QB THOMAS CASTELLANOS

Florida State football made another bold move in the offseason as they acquired former UCF and Boston College transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos. This is seemingly a better fit for the offense since the Seminoles added former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn to be its offensive coordinator.

Malzahn recruited and coached Castellanos with the Knights, and he is very familiar with him. Now that he is not a head football coach, he can hyperfocus on the offensive end to ensure that the opposing defenses are being confused.

I am a fan of what Castellanos can do in 2025 with the Seminoles, but I know some of the fan base is worried about what he said about how Nick Saban cannot save Alabama now (which is true). Individuals just don't want bulletin board material, but I assure that it won't be when Florida State beats them (we stand on business around here!).

Anyways, the signal-caller made headlines again during ACC Kickoff, where he was asked what the potential of the Seminoles' offense was in 2025 and he told reporters that they have the chance to score 40 points per game.

While I am not doubting the ability of the offense with pieces such as Duce Robinson and Squirrel White, it could be difficult to elevate themselves from such a high jump from 2024 and 2025. Nonetheless, I think the 28 or 29 point mark could be more reasonable to suggest (and that is double the production from a season ago).

While I know fans hate this, I love the confidence of Castellanos about the ability of what Florida State could bring to the 2025 season. I want players who want to compete, are energized about their teammates' abilities, and are leaders. He fits the bill for all of it.
