Florida State football will start spring practice on Wednesday, March 19th. This is a Seminoles team that is excited to put last season behind them after posting a 2-10 record.
Head football coach Mike Norvell isn't worried about the doubters who suddenly emerged from the unthinkable year. Norvell understands the expectations of this prestigious program, which is used to competing for national and conference championships.
He made several major changes to the roster via the transfer portal and recruiting ranks as well as hiring new coaches to the staff. This is something that the fan base is having to get used to since they are having to familiarize themselves with the new names.
I know that it is difficult to fall into the preseason "Kool-Aid" after Florida State football was disappointing in 2024. However, it looks like the Seminoles have an encouraging set of offensive and defensive players.
With that said, bad news has seemed to gravitate to Florida State's way in the last few years. Head football coach Mike Norvell doesn't usually share injury news.
However, on Monday, he shared that defensive backs Shyheim Brown and Conrad Hussey Jr. as well as defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins will miss the entire spring. Then offensive linemen Gunnar Hansen and Jaylen Early will miss the early part of the spring.
Personally, it is never great to hear about injury news when the program is in dire need of success in 2025. The injuries to Brown, Hussey Jr., Hansen, and Early should not be considered too serious. However, having injury setbacks this early in preseason isn't ideal.
The young defensive backfield will have to step up in the absence of two contributors that should make a sizable difference in 2025. I wonder how the youngsters will emerge. There are rumors surrounding the injury status of Jayson Jenkins. I hope it is nothing serious so that he can create havoc on opposing offenses.
