The ACC has featured many highlight moments throughout the 2025-26 Women’s College Basketball Season. As the Conference Tournament begins on Wednesday, fans have an opportunity to witness more historic performances that could lead to a championship. The Florida State Seminoles are one of the teams in the hunt for an ACC title. As they prepare for their quest, the ups and downs of the regular season have prepared them for the journey ahead.

Certainly, it’s been a rollercoaster season for the Seminoles and their fanbase. It was a regular season of experimentation as Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff and her team had to learn their new roster and how to connect on both ends. It may not have resulted in a winning record for the Seminoles, who finished the regular season with a 10-20 overall record and 5-13 in ACC Play; they were able to show few signs of growth as the season progressed.

Luckily, Florida State gets to put the struggles of the regular season behind them and focus on the ACC Tournament. In their 36 seasons playing in the conference, they’ve never been able to accomplish this feat. The ACC is a tough conference that features high-quality teams like Duke, Notre Dame, Louisville, and more. Each program has a uniqueness about themself that allows them to perform at a high level. Florida Stats is a program that is still trying to figure out their way with their new team. However, nothing is impossible for this team as they prepare ahead.

The Seminoles will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the first round of the Tournament. This is another program that has been in the same predicament as Florida State. While losing key pieces last season due to the transfer portal, Yellow Jackets Head Coach Karen Blair is in the process of rebuilding the program in her first season. While it has come with its ups and downs, there are also many golden moments like defeating Notre Dame in January. Also, Georgia Tech will have the upper hand in their matchup against Florida State due to clinching a higher seed as well as defeating them in their one matchup during the regular season.

The Yellow Jackets are not a team to look over. Sure, they finished the regular season with a 13-17 record. However, when Georgia Tech is at their best, they can be hard for any team to contain. The Yellow Jackets ranked 13th in offense does not define their story. They display a terrific half-court offense that results in great movement and high-quality shots.

Defense is going to be huge for Florida State in their first-round matchup against Georgia Tech. In their regular-season matchup on January 25, the Seminoles allowed the Yellow Jackets to shoot 40 percent from three as they thrived off great ball movement. Containing Georgia Tech’s perimeter scoring as well as backdoor cuts to the rim will be key to giving Florida State a chance to win.

As for the offense, consistency is key. It’s been difficult for Florida State to find an identity on that end of the floor. Some players were forced to play out of position and had to adapt to a new role offensively. Also, Florida State’s leading scorer, Solé Williams, has been hobbled with an injury that she suffered on Thursday vs Duke. Due to the injury, she missed the Seminoles’ final regular-season game on Sunday vs Wake Forest.

Williams’ absence is always felt to Florida State. The team misses their engine that initiates everything offensively. However, it’s also an opportunity for other key players to step up. In Florida State's win over Wake Forest, the team shot 37 percent from the floor and outscored the Demon Deacons 23-21 in the fourth quarter and overtime. The shooting percentage doesn’t stand out. However, the box score does as four players scored in double-figures. The contest was an example of Florida State coming together and trusting one another offensively. While their star player was out, other key players contributed, which led to a huge win to close the regular season.

Can Florida State pull the upset as the 14th seed? As they prepare for Wednesday’s matchup, nothing is possible. The Seminoles are going into the matchup confident and ready to compete at the highest level. They’ll have to display another grand performance to defeat Georgia Tech in the first round.
