FSU football coaches have been patient in the Spring Transfer Portal window but have started to make some moves over the past few days after several players entered the transfer portal from the roster.

One position the coaches have targeted is wide receiver after losing three receivers to the portal over the past week. There have been several receivers entering the portal that FSU fans wanted the coaches to target, but it looks like they have targeted one with promise.

However, the coaches know more than fans, but the latest target put on a show for FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn last year. Cincinnati transfer wide receiver Tony Johnson entered the portal recently and will visit FSU this weekend.

Johnson visited UCF this week, and he's supposed to visit Miami before heading to FSU.

Johnson had eight receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown against UCF, while Malzahn was the head coach in 2024. Johnson has steadily progressed each season since he started his college career at FAU before transferring to Cincinnati.

He had 48 receptions for 449 yards and six touchdowns last season. However, 41 receptions, 383 yards, and five touchdowns came in the final nine games. His best games were against teams in the B12, including three teams in the top 25.

Johnson only has one year of eligibility remaining and would be a great fit. He could provide some experience and production to a room full of young talent, but only being there one year isn't enough to scare any of them away.

Johnson is originally from Ocala, Florida, and was a walk-on at FAU before earning a scholarship. He's 5' 10" and nearly 190 pounds. We'll see how hard the coaches pursue Johnson, but it's clear he has suitors. If he makes it to FSU after his Miami visit, he's a player I'd try to lock down.
