FSU softball releases interesting 2025 season schedule
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball saw its 2024 season end against eventual National Champion Oklahoma for the second consecutive season. The Noles lost in the 2023 College World Series and the Super Regionals in 2024. Both series showed a noticeable gap between the two programs. FSU rode ace pitcher Kathryn Sandercock and a timely offense for much of 2023.
The 2024 team missed Sandercock's presence in the circle and dealt with injuries to key pitchers like Makenna Reid and Allison Royalty for large stretches during the season. However, freshman Ashtyn Danley emerged and will be a key contributor to the circle in 2025. Reid should return after returning briefly toward the end of the season. FSU added some experienced arms from the transfer portal and will return a large portion of its potent offensive lineup, including super freshmen Jaysoni Terry and Isa Torres.
The 2025 schedule was released on Monday, and FSU softball has an interesting journey ahead.
They have typically opened with the JoAnne Graf Classic in Tallahassee against some teams they should beat in preparation for the Shriner's Clearwater Invitational. That won't be the case in 2025, as the Noles will open play in Mexico against an Oklahoma State program that made it to the Women's College World Series last year.
FSU traveled to Oklahoma State in 2023. They'll also play Northern Colorado and Louisiana Tech. The Clearwater Invitational will happen before the JoAnne Graf Classic, followed by the Dugout Club Classic before heading out west to Oregon for a five-game stretch.
The Noles will enter ACC Conference play in mid-March with a two-game series against Alabama in the midweek. FSU will travel out west for a second stretch in early April before finishing conference play.
It'll be another tough schedule that will prepare them for the postseason. Coach Lonni Alameda usually likes to use the early part of the season to try different combinations and have things set when the Noles begin ACC play. The ACC slate is likely the most manageable part of the schedule.
The season begins three months from Wednesday!
