We haven’t heard too much from Florida State Softball since their season ended in the Super Regionals for the second consecutive season. They were noticeably quiet during the transfer portal window, but they made some major news on the recruiting trail Friday afternoon.

Lonni Alameda flipped Kentucky commit and Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, McLaine Hudson. Hudson announced the news on her social media account:

Hudson won a gold medal with the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup team. She made the All-World team and batted .563 in the tournament. Hudson is already the Kentucky state career leader for hits with 364, and will likely surpass the 400 career hit total in his senior season (she had 73 hits as a junior).

Hudson had 20 home runs and 65 RBI. That power translated to the World Cup Team, where she blasted a game-winning two-run home run:

Hudson is the fifth player in the 2026 recruiting class, joining the No. 61 player nationally, Ava Lorenzatti (pitcher). Outfielders Kaylee Goodpaster, Addy Ware, and Callee Leffler are also in the class.

FSU had an outstanding 2025 class, of which I expect several freshman to compete for playing time similar to the squad of Isa Torres, Jaysoni Beachum, Ashtyn Danley, and Kennedy Harp from the 2023 recruiting class.

FSU should have an excellent pitching staff with depth going into the 2026 season. The hope is Kennedy Harp can fully recover from her season-ending injury to rejoin Torres and Beachum to help boost the FSU offense in 2026. FSU adding a bat like Hudson to the program is a massive win, joining several major offensive threats from the 2025 class.
