Cam Brooks is not going to let one setback ruin his dream. The freshman defensive end was one of the early stars of the offseason workouts (a.k.a. Tour of Duty), but his early surge came to a disappointing end Wednesday when it was announced he tore his Achilles and would miss the 2026 season.

An Achilles injury can be devastating. The rehab and recovery last almost a year and the mental hurdles needed to go along with the physical demands are a lot for a young player to handle. However, Brooks is showing the right attitude in the face of upsetting news and shared his thoughts in a four-word post on his Twitter/X account.

Cam Brooks shares feelings on brutal injury

Brooks was one of several edge rushing prospects that FSU signed in the 2026 class and his recruitment wasn't exactly smooth sailing for those of us that remember. Despite the bumps on the trail, both FSU and Brooks found their way to each other at the end of the day.

The relationship looked like it was going to pay off immediately as Brooks was among the names mentioned as having an outstanding offseason. In most situations, it would be rare for a freshman to play big minutes, especially on the defensive line, but the Seminoles are a little thin at edge rusher and needed a freshman that could step up.

Brooks won't be that guy in 2026, but his early message should give fans hope that Brooks will work just as hard in recovery as he did in the mat drills that got everyone excited about his potential. It's not going to be an easy road to recovery, but Brooks has already shown the maturity and determination that was going to get him on the field early. There's no reason to think he won't display that same mentality in rehab. And he will do it with support from the entire FSU fanbase.
