FSU football will be without key offensive piece for next couple of weeks, next man up

Shouldn't be too long or too impactful

One of the players who flashed the most on offense against the Alabama Crimson Tide was tight end Randy Pittman Jr. Unfortunately, FSU head coach Mike Norvell announced he would be out for the next couple of weeks with an injury.

Norvell said he would be out for the next couple of weeks before re-evaluating. That means he’ll definitely miss the East Texas A&M and Kent State games. It’s possible he could miss the Virginia game, but FSU has a bye week, which could help in his recovery.

It’s been an issue that Pittman had been dealing with in the preseason and played with against Alabama. Pittman was outstanding in the Alabama game, blocking like a madman and hauling in two receptions for 18 yards. Norvell said, “It’ll be a short period of time.”

Potential Impact

It sounds like it’s nothing serious, and the next two games should be games that FSU easily wins. I wouldn’t have expected Pittman to play too much in either of these upcoming games to begin with.

These next two games will be great opportunities for young players like Landen Thomas, Amaree Williams, and Chase Loftin to get some significant playing time. We can throw veteran player Markeston Douglas in the mix for more snaps as well.

The tight end position is one where FSU has recruited exceptionally well over the past few recruiting cycles. All three of those young guys were among the upper-tier tight ends out of high school, and will be a glimpse of the future at the position.

I’m sure there will be the potential for more mistakes and missed assignments, but that’ll help them develop as FSU gets into the meat of their ACC schedule in a few weeks.

I don’t think FSU would need Pittman against Virginia, honestly. However, I’d love to see him back for the Miami game on October 4th, and that’s probably the goal.
