FSU football head coach Mike Norvell has a large task once the 2024 season concludes. He must decide who he wants to keep and who he wants to leave the program.

We wrote how FSU would likely follow the model several teams used in 2024, and that's taking 25+ players from the transfer portal. FSU has major needs in the trenches on both sides and at wide receiver.

They have some solid pieces in a few veteran guys and young players from recent high school classes who could develop into major contributors. Some veteran guys are eligible to return in 2025, but those who decide to stay or leave will answer many questions about the future of this program.

Will Mike Norvell force some veteran players out of the program? Will most of the young stable of high school guys signed in 2023-24 stick with the program?

We've seen several freshmen get on the field this year, but there are still a few who haven't gotten many opportunities for whatever reason.

There seems to have been an underlying tone that some young freshmen haven't been happy with their opportunities they've gotten. I've noted in several interviews where Mike Norvell is talking through the media and implying guys need to work and capitalize when opportunities occur.

If the majority of those young guys stay? That tells me they still believe in the vision and believe they can make their mark at FSU. The flip side is there may not be many teams tampering to tempt them to enter the portal because they haven't played much this year at FSU.

It'll be a good sign if Norvell gets rid of most of the older guys who have not been impactful, especially those thought to be impact players before the season.

It's all about resetting the standard and re-establishing accountability. Stay tuned to see what happens.
