FSU football: Transfer portal claims potential offensive line contributor

Not a total surprise

We posted earlier on Monday to expect attrition via the transfer portal for the spring window, and it didn't take long for that process to start. FSU football will complete its final week of spring camp this week, and players have a good idea if they want to remain part of the program or not.

FSU offensive lineman Jaylen Early announced he will not remain at FSU and plans to enter the spring transfer portal window:

Early was a blue-chip signee, one of several for former offensive line coach Alex Atkins. Early was the highest-rated of five offensive linemen signed in the 2022 class. He was the only one of the five to earn any substantial playing time, with most occurring last season.

However, Early had been limited this spring, and new FSU offensive line coach Herb Hand added four players from the winter transfer portal window. Early could have been a potential contributor if he remained healthy.

Early started games right tackle and right guard. It took a lot of time for Early to get on the field, which was a common theme among Alex Atkin signees.

Early's post on X indicates it may have been an amicable split. Maybe his limitations this spring may linger into the future and make his availability questionable. He's originally from Texas and may look to find a place closer to home. His former high school teammate, Jerrale Powers, exited the program via the transfer portal a while back.

The offensive line has others who were banged up in spring camp and looks to be a position where FSU will need to land more bodies in the Spring Transfer Portal window. Where Early lands next will tell you a lot about his potential to play moving forward. Whether it's a major school closer to home or a smaller school, the writing will be on the wall.
