Florida State football travels to South Bend to take on the No. 10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who is in the thick of things regarding the College Football Playoff discussion. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the Seminoles, who possess a 1-8 record on the season.
I really cannot believe that this is a reality for Florida State. Don't get me wrong, I love this university and this football program. However, the truth of the matter is that the Seminoles' offense is the worst in college football, and major changes will have to take place this offseason to get it back on track.
That said, it won't change anything for what will transpire on Saturday night. Florida State's offense will take on a Notre Dame defense where they are 4th in the FBS in scoring defense (12.1 PPG).
The Seminoles' offense is second to last in the FBS in scoring offense. So, this won't give them many favors, as Florida State has averaged 14.4 points per game. They only scored 11 points in their last game versus North Carolina, which allowed James Madison to score 70 points.
Let's face it...the program is a 26.5-point underdog to the Fighting Irish. The oddsmakers don't think this will be pretty. Most of the fan base understands and respects the fact that the Seminoles are leaning into the youth movement. However, the results on the football field have not changed.
The bad news is that the Seminoles have not defeated Notre Dame on the road since 2003. Florida State's defense will have its hands full with Notre Dame's offense, which wants to be physical and run the football. Quarterback Riley Leonard has been productive on the ground with 539 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Even though it pains us to predict this game, here are the ChopChat staff score predictions.
Taylor Devers: 42-9 Notre Dame
Kelvin Hunt: 35-7 Notre Dame
