FSU football: Recruiting pivoting to other options as Early Signing Period nears
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football recruiting has 11 commits in its 2025 recruiting class and may not keep all those guys as the Early Signing Period nears in early December. FSU has its QB and several offensive linemen committed, and they should keep most of those.
They could lose their tight-end commitment and its lone defensive tackle commit. FSU has no wide receiver commits in its class.
It's realistic to think FSU will take a relatively small high school class for a few reasons. They don't want to reach and take guys that will take forever to develop, and it's possible there will be some coaching changes once the season is over.
That likely means FSU will use the transfer portal more, and we've seen more offers for JUCO players lately. FSU has offered a few JUCO wide receivers, and some other players committed to other programs.
I expect FSU will lose some players currently on the roster, which means FSU will likely take a combination of more physically developed players (JUCO and transfer portal). I'd expect FSU to attempt to attract guys in the trenches on both sides of the ball because that's where most of their issues lie. It's also why we're seeing them focus on JUCO receivers.
Ironically, it's the same strategy Mike Norvell and staff had to use early in his tenure when FSU was not competitive on the field in 2020 and they couldn't recruit high school players face-to-face due to the pandemic.
It'll be interesting to see if any players committed elsewhere will take a chance on a staff that'll likely experience changes. How will players in the transfer portal react to those changes? How fast can Mike Norvell make hires if he makes changes? All of these factors will influence how this 2025 class finishes.
