Florida State football has had some serious issues this season as they have not lived up to the billing of their lofty preseason expectations. The Seminoles now have a 1-5 record with losses over Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, SMU, and Clemson.

Florida State had an undefeated regular season and a conference championship last year. The program also had a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons.

The most unfortunate part is that recruits need to find a reason to come to Florida State. I understand that the Seminoles speak for themselves with being a top-15 all-time program in college football. However, this is the third rough start in five years for Norvell during his tenure in Tallahassee.

Florida State has had some de-commitments during the 2025 recruiting class lately with four-star wide receiver Malik Clark, four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon, four-star defensive end Javion Hilson, and four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles.

The Seminoles have only had a pledge from four-star running back Byron Louis, whose former head football coach is now the defensive backs coach at Florida State, plus his high school teammate (four-star cornerback Gregory Thomas) is committed there and four-star offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr.

Nonetheless, this coaching staff needs to continue to recruit at a high level. They cannot let this recruiting class implode and ruin all of the positive momentum that they created over the past two seasons.

Head football coach Mike Norvell is trying to do his part as he flew to Gainesville, Georgia on Friday night to watch Class of 2025 four-star wide receiver commit CJ Wiley as Milton High School is on the road to take on Gainesville High School.

Wiley is a certified playmaker who needs to stay part of the Seminoles' recruiting class. The talented wide receiver who has visited other schools but has stayed committed to the program and still wears Florida State gear. This is a wide receiver that Ron Dugans needs to hang on to Wiley.

Norvell is certainly doing his part by putting his recruiting hat on.
