Florida State's offensive line under assistant coach Herb Hand had some shining moments during the 2025 season. However, the Seminoles added several veterans via the transfer portal that were graduating after one year.
It was a solid bridge gap to allow youngsters to grow, develop, and learn the way of being a collegiate player. 2026 was supposed to be the year for some of the players to emerge in the rotation such as Sandman Thompson, Andre Otto, Lucas Simmons, and Jonathan Daniels.
Florida State has seen several contributors for next year's squad go their separate ways via the transfer portal this offseason. It seems like every day we are seeing more and more players announcing their intentions to transfer out.
It almost makes the fan base wonder who wants to play for the Seminoles. It is a harsh reality of what it is like being a fan of Florida State football, who has seven wins in two years. This is not the standard of a program that wants to compete for conference and national championships.
Surprisingly enough, Florida State offensive tackle Lucas Simmons announced on Monday afternoon that he would be testing the transfer portal waters.

This was a former top want in the 2023 recruiting cycle for Florida State. The 6'7" offensive tackle was someone that the fan base thought could be an issue for opposing defenses to handle with his frame. However, throughout the years, Simmons has never gotten his opportunity.
The offensive lineman is heading into his fourth season, and this was supposed to be his year to finally break the starting rotation. While Simmons could still come back, offensive tackles usually cost a fortune in the transfer portal, so having to get more depth and/or starting experience in there could be trouble for a Florida State squad that already has a ton of needs.
