FSU football: Logistics of Florida's Billy Napier staying put for the Noles
Florida State football has been a train wreck this year, with a combined 1-8 record and losses that the fan base has tried to forget. We at ChopChat had even discussed how we thought Florida head football coach Billy Napier would be on the hot seat after his Gators would endure a tough back half of the 2024 schedule.
However, athletic director Scott Strickland announced on Thursday afternoon that Napier would remain the head football coach of the Gators. This is surprising news since Florida has a 4-4 record with games remaining such as Ole Miss, Texas, LSU, and Florida State to try and get bowl eligible.
The Gators have shown a fight even though the record isn't as good as the fan base wanted. Unlike the Seminoles, Florida State acts like a product that wants to be on the field. The Seminoles have been defeated by teams this season, such as Boston College (which could have been worse), SMU, Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina.
Just let it be known that I don't care anything about the Gators. I don't drink Gatorade, and I hate the color orange (yes, I am throwing shots at you, Clemson and Miami...).
The potential firing of Napier could have had an impact on the Seminoles, where Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin was a potential candidate for the job. Keeping him also has an impact on the Seminoles since he has had a losing record during his tenure at Gainesville.
Florida State has underperformed this season, and there have been no signs of improvements in sight. The Seminoles were thought to be contenders to win the conference and have a shot at a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The fan base has gotten tired of the disappointments where some have even suggested that the program should fire Norvell just after going 23-4 in the previous two seasons. The news of Napier shows how crazy the college football landscape is.
Let the point of pitchforks get uglier as On3's Steve Wiltfong predicted Class of 2025 four-star quarterback commit Tramell Jones Jr. from Mandarin High School to flip his pledge from Florida State to Florida after Napier announced his stay in Gainesville.
Jones Jr. has been committed to Florida State since April 1, 2023. The Gators have been pushing his services even after the talented signal-caller locked down his recruitment. Jones Jr. had visited the program and had many Seminole fans worried about his commitment.
There is reason to worry now as Florida State continues to lose at the moment on the field and the recruiting trail. There does not seem to be an end in sight.
