Florida State football currently sits as the 23rd-best recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. That is not where the fan base wants to see the program listed, as the Seminoles should be consistently luring highly-touted prospects from the states of Florida and Georgia.

With that said, it isn't all bad news on the recruiting front as Florida State tight end coach Chris Thomsen is actively recruiting four-star tight end Heze Kent from Brunswick, Georgia. The high school had its spring game recently, and Coach Thomsen came to see Kent in action.

Kent will announce his commitment on July 12th. The Seminoles are heavily involved in his recruitment, but they aren't alone as the Georgia native has official visits scheduled with Florida, Miami, Georgia Tech, Texas, and Florida State.

InsideTheU staff writer Gaby Urrutia put in a crystal ball prediction in favor of the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes on March 27th with a confidence level of 4 out of 10. However, we all know how Hurricane fans are about their out-of-this-world predictions that might seem "homerish".

Nonetheless, I know that this is ChopChat, and we are avid Florida State football fans as well. I do believe that the Seminoles will have a solid chance to land Kent, who is a top-150 prospect in the 2026 cycle, because he will be officially visiting Florida State on June 20th.

That needs to be good news for the program this summer, and then Florida State football has to do its part on the field by being successful. The 2-10 record won't be sustainable. The coaching staff might have to circle on some targets later on if the 2025 campaign is successful.

I am liking the idea of the Seminoles going after four-star tight end Heze Kent and four-star tight end Xavier Tiller (who is choosing between Florida State, Auburn, and Alabama and will be officially visiting on June 13th). That should allow the coaching staff to land two above-average options at the position.
