Florida State's offense was historically bad during the 2024 season. The Seminoles' fan base did not think it could get much worse than last year. It should be a vast improvement from that standpoint.

Head football coach Mike Norvell made several sweeping changes, which included six coaching hires. Norvell used to emphasize the idea of continuity, but when the standard was not met at Florida State, he decided to go in a different direction.

One of the bigger hires on the offensive side of the football was former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn, who got the keys to the entire offense. This was something that many individuals didn't know if Norvell would be able to do.

It is a strange development, as he was once regarded as one of the more innovative offensive minds in the country. The jury is still out on if Norvell can be successful without the likes of do-it-all quarterback Jordan Travis.

However, he is trying to put his best foot forward for the squad. Along with Malzahn, the Seminoles also added former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos and former UCF offensive line coach Herb Hand, who has had experience with Malzahn and has had stops at a variety of Power Five schools.

Some fans thought that former Florida State offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins would be the next up-and-coming assistant coach. However, that thought process went out the window after the disaster of last season.

Individuals were skeptical of Coach Atkins since he utilized the transfer portal to fill his offensive line and never used homegrown recruits (other than Robert Scott, Andre Otto, and Jaylen Early) in his six seasons at Florida State.

Coach Hand had to locate offensive linemen quickly to get proper depth at the position so that he could start obtaining highly-touted recruits to put them in the rotation. The Seminoles went out and grabbed four transfers this offseason in Luke Petitbon, Gunnar Hansen, Adrian Medley, and Micah Pettus who should be viable starters in the room this year while younger options develop.

Florida State is also looking at more options in the transfer portal. According to a tweet from "The Portal Report", the Seminoles are expressing interest in Louisiana Tech offensive lineman Ja'Marion Kennedy. He was the starting right guard for the Bulldogs last year.

Kennedy is visiting Wake Forest today, but the Seminoles could get involved in the recruitment quickly. Overall, I think offensive tackle is more of a pressing need from a depth standpoint, but it is good to have options in the interior due to the fact of how horrific the offensive line was last year.

It is always about elevating the floor of a program and getting Florida State football back to where it belongs. Plus, it is encouraging that the Louisiana Tech transfer has multiple years of eligibility remaining.
