FSU FOOTBALL SEASON OPENER

Florida State football opens its season opener with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST in Doak Campbell Stadium. It doesn't get much more daunting than that because Alabama will be looking to avenge its 9-4 season after losses to Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Michigan.

It isn't the expectation for their program after legendary head football coach Nick Saban retired. Heck, the Seminoles went 2-10 last season, and that should never have happened either.

INJURY UPDATES

This is a brand-new slate for both teams as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida State Seminoles welcome in new rosters. Football is a contact sport, so injuries are bound to happen. The Alabama Crimson Tide have been hit with the injury bug so far, as running back Jam Miller, offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts, and defensive lineman Tim Keenan have been the ones affected.

It has been relatively quiet on the Seminoles' end with injuries (*knocks on wood*). Head football coach Mike Norvell is usually pretty hush-hush when it comes to injuries. However, he was pretty up front when talking about the injuries of defensive tackle Kevin Wynn and wide receiver Lawayne McCoy, who were both not on the projected depth chart.

SQUIRREL WHITE GOOD NEWS

One player that I am probably going to be worried about injury-wise for the majority of the year is wide receiver, Squirrel White. He has had an issue with injuries, even when he was at Tennessee.

He had a productive 2023 campaign with the Volunteers, where he recorded 800 yards. However, he dealt with injuries in 2024, which limited his production. Tennessee likely had its reasons for allowing him to transfer to Florida State. Nonetheless, quarterback Thomas Castellanos will be relying on him to be the wide receiver number two on the roster.

I thought Coach Norvell would have been uncertain about the pass catcher during Wednesday's media session, but he told individuals that White has been looking good in practice as we approach Saturday's matchup.
