Western Kentucky defensive end Deante McCray was the second defensive end the coaching staff took from the portal.
FSU coaches knew they had to get bigger in the trenches with guys who have the physicality to set the edge against the run. McCray is massive at 6'4" and 283 pounds.
He's over 30 pounds heavier than Patrick Payton or Marvin Jones Jr.
The former Conference USA All-Freshman team member in 2023 improved on his numbers in his sophomore year. McCray plays with a good first step and a high motor. He can also likely play on the edge or on the interior in different packages.
He has two years of eligibility remaining and could provide more time for FSU to address its lack of depth at the defensive end position since the previous staff didn't do a great job recruiting the position via the high school ranks.
