FSU coaches knew they needed to hit on one more linebacker before the Winter Portal ended and landed former Tennessee and Memphis linebacker Elijah Herring.

Herring looks like a linebacker you'd want to step off the bus first at 6'2" and 230 pounds. He brings experience and production with one year of eligibility remaining.

Herring had 80 tackles in his sophomore year at Tennessee (13 games) and 60 last season at Memphis (11 games).

He'll likely compete for starter reps immediately and add depth and leadership to the position in 2025. He's excellent against the run, plays with physicality, and can get off blocks.

He's one of the bigger linebackers FSU has had in recent years but is capable against the pass. He had two interceptions last year with four pass breakups.
