FSU football: Five huge takeaways from Luke Kromenhoek's first career start
By Kelvin Hunt
Effective Runner
FSU fans will never confuse Luke Kromenhoek for Jordan Travis, but the former can move well enough to keep the defense honest.
As mentioned, he had eight carries for 31 yards(counting sack yardage), with one going for 21 yards. He also had runs of 14, 6, 6 and 3.
Kromenhoek had already had at least three carries where he got positive yardage before this play.
This play was effective because Kromenhoek had shown he could run the ball successfully, and the defense had to respect it. That fact made those two Charleston Southern defenders commit to Kromenhoek, which opened the area for Amaree Williams to take the shovel pass into the end zone.
I don't expect Kromenhoek to run 10+ times in a game consistently, but the fact they can do it 5-8 times a game helps open things up.
Parting Thoughts
I like what I saw on Saturday. Sure, we have to grade it on a curve because it was Charleston Southern.
However, we've seen him play against much better defenses, but things are starting to slow down for him.
There were a handful of plays where he could have gotten rid of the ball quicker but overall should help his confidence moving forward.
