Messaging Changes
Jeff Cameron worries that Mike Norvell needs to change his messaging to the players. I disagree.
All Mike Norvell needs to do is make the right coordinator hires in the offseason and hold them accountable. Can he do that remains to be seen, but there are a ton of examples that support the possibility.
Bobby Bowden fired his son and hired Jimbo Fisher to take over the offense after the 2008 season. The offense went from 91st in scoring to 22nd in one year.
Remember how terrible the 2009 defense was in Mickey Andrews' final year? Fisher hired Mark Stoops the following year, and the defense was light years better in one year.
Georgia Tech's defense was bad last year, and their defense has improved considerably under its new defensive coordinator in year one. Miami had a poor offense in Mario Cristobal's first year.
He made a change at coordinator after one year, and that offense noticeably improved in Shannon Dawson's first year.
I understand Mike Norvell will in year six in 2025, but hiring new coordinators is an opportunity to reset and re-stablish standards and accountablity among the coaches and players. Again, it comes back to making the right hires and acquiring talent.
