FSU football coaching staff should take notes from this team in the SEC

This is something that Florida State should do.

Florida State football has seen nothing but bad news over the last couple of days. The Seminoles finished with a 2-10 record in 2024, then followed that up with a 5-7 campaign in 2025.

Head football coach Mike Norvell was retained for next season, but some of the fan base did not agree with the decision. The large buyout has the university searching for solutions.

The equation is simple for the administration: Try to field a good roster and resources around Coach Norvell to make him have a successful 2026.

Unfortunately, the transfer portal has not been kind to Florida State. There have been meaningful contributors that have elected to navigate to the portal, such as tight end Randy Pittman Jr. and defensive back Ja’Bril Rawls.

The Seminoles are in desperate need of acquiring talent at key positions this year, with quarterback and offensive line being an important talking point on offense.

Speaking of quarterback, On3 has reported that Texas quarterback Arch Manning is expected to take a reduced House payment with the Longhorns.

As someone who has been an avid Florida State fan for years, I wish that there were more hometown discounts to stay with the Seminoles. However, I understand that having a 7-17 record over the past two years has not made the players want to stay.

The Longhorns have to play Michigan in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Wednesday, December 31st at 3PM EST. The Wolverines have their own set of issues to handle with former head football coach Sherrone Moore.

Florida State’s administration should take notes in retaining important pieces to their roster, such as wide receiver Duce Robinson. If the pass catcher is returning in 2026, it could attract a prized signal-caller to come to Tallahassee, but potential second or third round money could be too good to pass up for Robinson.
