FSU FOOTBALL
Florida State football has done an incredible job this year, where the Seminoles have defeated the likes of Alabama and East Texas A&M. Some individuals thought that it was an impossible task (yes, I am talking about you, Paul Finebaum).
The program had a 2-10 record last year, so there were plenty of doubters out there. However, head football coach Mike Norvell stayed the course by acquiring forty-four new players to the roster and six coaches to the staff.
One coach that I was excited that he brought in was defensive coordinator Tony White, who came from Nebraska. The fan base thought highly of offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, but Coach White had a physical 3-3-5 multiple defense that is meant to confuse opposing offenses.
COACH WHITE IN DANGER OF LEAVING?
The Seminoles' defensive unit made redshirt junior quarterback Ty Simpson look uncomfortable. The signal-caller has bounced back in the contests versus Louisiana Monroe and Wisconsin. Then, wide receiver Ryan Williams had a case of the drops because he didn't want to deal with the vicious hits from defensive backs Earl Little Jr., Ashlynd Barker, and Ja'Bril Rawls.
The defense plays hard and aggressively flies to the football. Most thought that Coach White would be in Tallahassee for two years and then likely look for a head coach position.
Unfortunately, DeShaun Foster was relieved of his duties at UCLA on Sunday afternoon. This is relevant because White is an alumnus of the Bruins. According to a coaching hot board from ESPN, he is listed as a candidate.
This is worrisome for Seminole fans because he is an above-average defensive coordinator. It would make the most sense for Florida State to turn to former Mississippi State head football coach Zach Arnett, who is on the coaching staff as an analyst, to take over at defensive coordinator if Coach White did leave for the Bruins.
However, it doesn't seem likely that the program will take a high risk on someone who has never been a head football coach, even with the connections.
