FSU defensive coordinator Tony White’s name is among the top candidates for the UCLA job since they fired Deshaun Foster a couple of days ago.
Naturally, a portion of the FSU fanbase went into panic mode, assuming the worst, that White will inevitably leave for that job. It’s his alma mater after all, but UCLA went that route with Deshaun Foster, and it was a disaster.
They chose Foster over White, although Foster hadn’t even been a coordinator at the college level before.
So there’s that dynamic of White potentially feeling slighted, almost in an “I told you so” moment. Did he take that personally? He could potentially use it as a negotiation tactic, especially since he continued to prove himself even more as a coordinator over the past two years.
Then there’s the fact that UCLA is in considerable debt and seems to be a head coaching job that sets guys up to fail. Chip Kelly was one game over .500 overall, and .500 in the weak Pac-12 Conference before the Bruins moved to the B1G. Jim Mora was just over .500 in conference play before Kelly. Rick Neuheisel was well below .500 as a head coach before that.
It’s not an attractive job, and I’m not the only one to think that. I don’t think much of Josh Pate nowadays, but he’s right here.
90% of the names I’ve seen mentioned in the UCLA search already have better jobs…many are coordinators

Here are three reasons why I wouldn't worry about Tony White taking the UCLA job.
