Learned a few things this week about some teams

We’re already through two weeks in the 2025 college football season, and we’re gathering data points about each respective team nationally and in the ACC. The week two slate in the ACC was relatively weak from an opponent's standpoint, but we saw some teams that may not be as we once thought. A team will usually take a big jump from week one to week two, especially against an inferior opponent.

However, we saw Clemson struggle with Troy. Louisville struggles with James Madison. SMU choked away a win against Baylor at home. Syracuse went life and death with UConn at home and won in overtime. Duke beat itself a lot against Illinois. North Carolina’s offense struggled against Charlotte, and Virginia Tech got embarrassed by Vanderbilt. Boston College lost in double overtime on the road against Michigan State, and BYU rolled past Stanford.

Here are my updated ACC Power Rankings through two weeks:

  1. FSU (2-0)
  2. Miami (2-0)
  3. Louisville (2-0)
  4. Clemson (1-1)
  5. Georgia Tech (2-0) +1
  6. SMU (1-1) -1
  7. Pittsburgh (2-0) +3
  8. NC State (2-0) +1
  9. California (2-0) +3
  10. Wake Forest (2-0) +5
  11. Virginia (1-1) -3
  12. Duke (1-1) -5
  13. Boston College (1-1) -2
  14. Syracuse (1-1) -1
  15. North Carolina (1-1) +1
  16. Virginia Tech (0-2) -2
  17. Stanford (0-2)

FSU has a bye week, and the rest of the schedule isn’t filled with too many interesting games. Someone’s O has to go on Thursday night when NC State travels a few miles west to play Wake Forest. Clemson travels to Georgia Tech, which should tell us if Clemson is anything close to legit or not after how they looked against Troy.

Pittsburgh travels to West Virginia, and No. 18 USF travels to No. 5 Miami, fresh off its upset win over Florida. California will see if it can remain undefeated when it hosts Minnesota, and Boston College travels west to Stanford.
