This marriage seems like it's coming to an end

If Mike Norvell wasn't on the hot seat before today, he is officially on watch after a 34-31 loss to Pitt. It's the Seminoles' eighth straight ACC loss, and it will be at least 393 days before they have the chance to change that next Saturday night at Stanford.

FSU led 21-14 at halftime behind the heroics of Tommy Castellanos, but injuries in the offense have mounted and the Seminoles' defense remains a work in progress.

Needless to say, the FSU fan base is running out of patience.

How much is Mike Norvell's buyout?

According to the most recent story from the USA Today, FSU will owe Norvell more than $58 million dollars if he is fired by December 1.

"As of Dec. 1, 2025, if the school fires Norvell without cause, he would be set to receive $58,667,708, which ranks as the No. 6 most expensive buyout out of the 105 USA TODAY's could review and No. 2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference."
Blake Schuster, USA Today

It seems unfathomable for FSU to raise nearly $60 million to get rid of Norvell regardless of how the rest of the season goes and that isn't lost on FSU fans that don't see an end to this era.

What's Norvell's record at FSU?

Not good. Since going 13-1 in 2023, the Seminoles coach is 5-13 with the wins coming against California, Charleston Southern, East Texas A&M, Kent State and...somehow Alabama. The win over the Crimson Tide came at the beginning of the season and looks more and more questionable each day.

Overall, Norvell's record at FSU is 36-30 and he's 20-23 in the ACC. This will be the fifth time in six seasons that FSU has a three-game losing streak.

To make matters worse, today was Norvell's 44th birthday.

After going 2-10 last season, Norvell made wholesale changes to his staff. He fired six coaches and replaced both coordinators, bringing in Gus Malzahn and Tony White as offensive and defensive coordinators respectively. But years of substandard recruiting have forced the Seminoles to work through the transfer portal and left the roster with limited depth.
