Some interesting developments around FSU football over the past 24-48 hours.
There were rumors circulating on the message boards late Wednesday night that the FSU athletics website had removed Notre Dame from the 2026 schedule. By Friday, it was confirmed that the Seminoles would no longer host the Fighting Irish at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2026.
The future home-and-home series scheduled for 2029 and 2030 will not be affected by this news.
What will FSU's next move be?
The ACC will be in a transitional year with a nine-game schedule. Some teams in the conference will have nine ACC games and others will have eight, with two non-conference games against P4 competition. FSU has eight conference games on the schedule and games with Alabama and Florida to fulfill the two P4 non-conference requirements.
The Seminoles have also scheduled FCS team Central Arkansas. It's possible that the Seminoles could add another conference game, but they could also try to schedule another non-conference opponent, and it would likely be someone in the Group of Six.
FSU's home schedule already includes SMU, Clemson and Florida, among others, and the road schedule features Alabama, Miami and Louisville, so if Mike Norvell or whoever handles FSU's schedule can get another Kent State-type of game on there, it would be understandable.
FSU's history with Notre Dame
The Seminoles and Irish have become quite a fun matchup over the past 30 years. One of the most famous games in college football history featured the Irish and Seminoles in a 1 vs. 2 game in 1993. Notre Dame won the game, but FSU eventually won the national title.
Since then, FSU and Notre Dame have played 10 times and are 5-5 against each other. The Seminoles have faced the Irish in bowl games twice (1996 Orange Bowl and 2011 Champs Sports Bowl) and won both of them. Notre Dame won the most recent game, 52-3, last season in South Bend. The Irish have won four straight in the series.
