FSU has 22 commitments in its 2026 recruiting class, which ranks No. 15 nationally. A couple of those didn't seem as sure as the others, and somehow or another, both were players from South Florida.
However, one of those players, three-star linebacker commit Karon Maycock, did an interview with Noles247 and announced he had shut down his recruitment on Sunday afternoon. Maycock has a three-star composite ranking but is a player who should see a rankings improvement at some point.
Maycock continued to get recruited by the hometown Miami Hurricanes and other schools since committing to FSU in February. He also took official visits to Alabama, Syracuse, and Florida this summer(with FSU getting his last summer official).
This news feels like a big win for the coaching staff, although it's not a new commitment. It helps ensure the linebacker position with at least two commitments, but FSU needs one more. Maycock shutting down his recruitment helps the coaching staff hone in on Duyon Forkpa Jr., who recently pushed back his commitment date, and most believe that helps FSU.
"Since the first day they recruited me, they never stopped, and it just felt like home everytime I've been on campus," Maycock said as to why he has shut down his recruitment. "Every time we've communicated, the communication is there. It just felt like family to me."
"I'm not taking anymore visits -- I'm locked in, fully locked in."
However, they'll still need to recruit Maycock even though he says he is saying all of this. He never took an official visit to Miami, and Mario Cristobal will try every trick in the book to keep that talent in Miami.
FSU recently had its highest-ranked commit on social media, recruiting another talented in-state player to join him in the 2026 class. I'd like to see Maycock and a few others (like QB commit Jaden O'Neal) take a more vocal approach to recruiting the key remaining targets to finish this class out strong. They only need at least one offensive tackle, defensive end, and one more linebacker to meet every need they had in this recruiting cycle.
