FSU basketball looks to build on three game winning streak hosting Western Carolina
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU basketball (6-1, 0-0 ACC) is off to its best start in years and the winner of three straight. They'll look to build on their non-conference record when they host the Western Carolina Catamounts (2-2) in the Tucker Center.
The Noles dominated UMASS in their last outing, and their lone loss came against the rival Florida Gators in a hard-fought game. Western Carolina lost its last outing against Wake Forest by 13 points.
Western Carolina has the edge in several categories, averaging 80 ppg and 46.5 rebounds. They shoot 46 percent overall, 72 percent from the charity stripe, and 33.6 percent from the three-point line. Western Carolina takes 48 percent of their shots from beyond the three-point line.
Their biggest issue is turnovers, averaging 18 per game, which plays into one of FSU's biggest strengths. FSU has been great at turning teams over and turning it into offense.
FSU hasn't shot it well at the free-throw or three-point line. However, they finally had a good shooting night from beyond the arc in their last outing, making 9 of 18 three-point shots.
Western Carolina goes pretty deep, with nine guys averaging 15 more minutes. They have three players averaging in double-figures.
This game will be all about FSU using its defense to create offense and playing solid three-point defense. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will air on ACC Extra/ESPN+. FSU will be a large betting favorite and has covered the spread in its last three games. It wouldn't surprise me to see FSU cover the spread unless Western Carolina makes a lot of three pointers.
