The Florida State men's basketball program has a lot of attention on itself after it was announced that head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton will not return next season. This has been difficult for an individual who has been such as professional and has always treated the program with class.
Coach Hamilton is probably not proud of how the program has dropped four in a row, which included an unthinkable loss to Boston College on the road. The Seminoles were thought to have a shot at the NCAA Tournament earlier in the year, but those thoughts are far gone now.
It remains the same but the squad has a bright spot where they are led by their top two scorers forwards Jamir Watkins and Malique Ewin.
Florida State came back to Tallahassee for a much-needed home game versus a Notre Dame Fighting Irish that has struggled this year. The Fighting Irish just lost to the Miami Hurricanes on the road this past Saturday. To put that into perspective, Miami is one of the worst teams in the conference.
This felt like a bounce-back game that the Seminoles needed to have to continue fighting for Coach Hamilton.
Florida State did just that as they placed in front of their fans in a Tucker Center that witnessed the Seminoles finally get a win versus Notre Dame by a score of 67-60.
Surprise, surprise... Florida State is led by Watkins (21 points and 8 rebounds) and Ewin (18 points and 10 rebounds). The Seminoles did not shoot that well from three-point range as they only connected on 3 of their 13 attempts.
However, it did not matter as Notre Dame shot 36.5% from the field. The Fighting Irish cut it to 56-55 with 2:46 left in the second half. However, the Seminoles did not panic as they went on a 9-2 run to get some breathing room.
The Seminoles will have time to rest for its next game as Florida State took on a tough Wake Forest squad on the road on Wednesday, February 12th, at 7 PM EST.
