FSU basketball (4-1) continued to ease through its non-conference home schedule on Friday night with a win over the Georgia Southern Eagles (3-3). FSU led 40-29 at halftime and expanded the lead in the second half to win 98-72.
FSU was led by Lajae Jones’ program record, tying 10 three-pointers and 36 points. All of his 21 shots were three-pointers, and he made 11 while going 6 of 8 from the free-throw line. Chauncey Wiggins returned to the lineup after missing the last game, chipping in with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Kobe MaGee had 12 points.

The Noles shot 44 percent overall and 35 percent from the three-point line (17 of 49). They continue to struggle at the free-throw line, only making 19 of 29 (66 percent).
FSU forced 17 turnovers and generated 15 points off of those opportunities. FSU only turned it over 11 times on offense and had the edge on the boards. FSU outscored Georgia Southern 28 to 20 in the paint.
Defensively, FSU held Georgia Southern to 33 percent shooting and 27 percent from the three-point line.
Overall Thoughts
The 49 three point attempts was another new FSU record, but they took too many three-point shots with guys wide open in the paint. They also waste too many opportunities after forcing turnovers. They must capitalize on those opportunities with more points against better competition. They must also do something about their free-throw shooting.
Thankfully, Lajae Jones had a career night or this game could have been much closer than it was. The Noles will continue its non-conference schedule on Tuesday against Cal State Bakersfield.
