Florida State football wants to add more talented pieces via the transfer portal. The Seminoles want to improve their roster as they prepare for the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th, in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium.
The program has an important defensive back transfer, Jakobe Thomas, coming to visit the campus this week. Thomas played at Middle Tennessee State and Tennessee during his collegiate career. The issue is that he will also visit Miami this week, too.
This is a get that the Florida State football coaching staff needs to secure, as he is considered the eighth-best safety prospect in the transfer portal. Head football coach Mike Norvell, defensive coordinator Tony White, defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr., and safeties coach Evan Cooper will be at the forefront of the recruitment.
Thomas started his career with Middle Tennessee State, where he recorded 108 total tackles, two forced fumbles, four interceptions, and eight pass deflections. He played at Tennessee last year, where he finished with 22 total tackles, two pass deflections, and one interception.
This was a big surprise as the coaching staff raves about the two safeties on the roster with Shyheim Brown and Earl Little Jr. (Tony White called the defensive back "HIM"). Those defensive backs should be productive for the Seminoles during the 2025 season.
I thought that the safety position is solid with depth, such as players Conrad Hussey, Max Redmon, and KJ Kirkland. However, I understand Florida State probably wants proven pieces, especially in the SEC.
I know that wide receiver, offensive tackle, and defensive end are probably more coveted positions, but it is good that the coaching staff is trying to get as many talented pieces on the roster as possible.
