Florida State's women's basketball team is on an absolute tear this year where they have a 17-4 overall record (7-2 in conference). The Seminoles are ranked in the top 25 after their buzzer-beating victory over an excellent opponent, North Carolina.
The Lady Noles made light work of the Boston College Eagles having a 12-11 overall record (3-7 in conference) on the road by a score of 104-80 in what could have been a trap game.
The Seminoles now return to the home court to face an 8-13 Wake Forest squad that has lost eight of its past nine games. Florida State will be playing the Demon Deacons on Sunday, February 2nd at 6 PM EST on the ACC Network.
The Seminoles have been led by superstar guard Ta'Niya Latson for good reason. She averages 26.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game during the season. Latson has been someone that Florida State could always rely on. The game of basketball has become so guard-centric that many teams hyperfocus on the ability to knock down the three-point jumper.
However, senior forward Makayla Timpson is averaging 17.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game where she doesn't shoot the flashy three-pointers, but she goes down in the paint and does the dirty work to ensure that her Seminoles get the victory.
During the win over Boston College, Timpson had 21 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks. The forward allows the guards to be more aggressive in their approach. In eight of the last ten games, she has scored at least 15+ points.
If Florida State's squad wants to compete with the best of the best, they will have to get the dynamic duo of Ta'Niya Latson and Makayla Timpson to continue their rein of dominance on opponents.
