FSU football lost former five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams to the transfer portal in recent weeks. Williams was a raw prospect out of high school who battled injuries for much of his first two years at FSU. He never reached his potential and decided to enter the portal after spring camp, and FSU coaches didn't fight too hard to keep him.

Williams had interest from Miami, Colorado, and Syracuse but ultimately decided to commit to Deion Sanders and Colorado on Tuesday afternoon.

Deion Sanders has a track record of taking players from Florida State, beginning with Travis Hunter's flip during the 2022 season. However, his choice among FSU football players who went to Colorado after entering the transfer portal from FSU has been unproductive.

  • Omarion Cooper
  • Brendan Gant
  • Derrick McLendon
  • Travis Jay
  • Bishop Thomas

None of these players contributed anything significant during their time in Boulder, and Cooper transferred back to FSU last year to continue contributing nothing.

That's not to say Williams will allow history to repeat, but Deion Sanders will have a lot of new faces on his team with the departure of Shedeur Sanders at QB and Travis Hunter at receiver. The biggest thing for Williams was remaining healthy, along with the fine details of developing as a receiver.

The good news for Williams is the Big12 conference isn't exactly known for playing defense, and Colorado has aired the ball out quite a bit over the past two years. Maybe that was Deion's wish to give his son more of the spotlight. The other tidbit is the history between Williams and former Colorado standout Travis Hunter.

Williams had choice words for Hunter as he enrolled at FSU out of high school, and Hunter entered the transfer portal to follow Deion Sanders to Colorado. It wasn't the first time Deion tried to sign Williams. Good luck to Williams in Colorado.
