Florida State football had a tough 2025 season, where they finished with a 5-7 record and lost seven of the last nine games. This is not what the fan base wants to see from a squad that went 2-10 during a disastrous 2024 campaign.
The Seminoles had flashes on offense with their wide receiver options Duce Robinson, Micahi Danzy, and Lawayne McCoy. The thought process was that whoever the quarterback was in 2026 had the opportunity to throw to these talented pass catchers.
However, McCoy decided to enter the transfer portal, while Robinson and Danzy elected to return to the Seminoles next year.
Wide receiver Lawayne McCoy commits to the Louisville Cardinals
When the fan base heard the news of McCoy going into the portal, they thought that it could be a way for him to leverage money for himself. Many players have done that this offseason.
During the season, head football coach Mike Norvell classified the talented playmaker as an "x-factor" for the Seminoles during the 2025 season. He didn't start to catch his stride until the end of the year, where he recorded 27 receptions for 396 yards and three touchdowns during the 2025 season (according to ESPN Stats and Information).
It was announced on Sunday by On3's Hayes Fawcett that wide receiver Lawayne McCoy has committed to Louisville.

The former four-star prospect was the last wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, which is insane, as Camdon Frier and Elijah Moore transferred out, and BJ Gibson went to full-time baseball.
McCoy is originally from the Miami area, but he felt the need to have a change of scenery and will be heading to Louisville. The most interesting aspect about this is that the Cardinals play Florida State at home during the 2026 season, and I am sure that McCoy will do everything in his power to show off his skill set against his former team.
