Former FSU great says talent isn't the issue at FSU, and he's RIGHT

I've been saying this the last few weeks.

So many people have an opinion about what’s wrong at FSU, and many think it’s a talent problem. However, that’s a cop out answer that we’ve addressed several times. FSU had more talent than most of the teams they faced and lost to last year, and that’s the case this year.

There’s a reason FSU was nearly a touchdown betting favorite on the road at Virginia and -10.5 betting favorites at home against Pittsburgh.

Yet, they continue to find ways to lose. If it’s not turnovers by the offense, it’s the defense getting gashed by a freshman in his first road and second career start.

We’re not the only ones who know it’s not a talent issue. Former FSU great Bryant McFadden said the same thing in his post-game show on CBS:

He’s not wrong. FSU may not recruit at an elite level in the high school ranks, but they blow Virginia and Pittsburgh out of the water when it comes to high school rankings. They usually beat them in transfer portal recruiting rankings too.

The fact is, there’s a different type of mentality with this FSU football team over the last three games, especially on defense. What happened to the physicality we saw in the Alabama game? We pointed out that Alabama left some plays on the field in the passing game, and FSU had some areas to clean up. However, Virginia, Miami, and Pittsburgh had receivers running wide open against the FSU linebackers and secondary.

No question, FSU had some players in position to make plays, and they weren’t made, which goes to McFadden’s point about accountability and the fear of making a mistake.

The FSU offense has wasted tons of opportunities over the past three games, and the turnovers haven't helped. However, they are averaging 29 points per game over the last three(in regulation) and that should be more than enough for what FSU is paying Tony White and the talent they have on defense.
