Florida State football is known for developing talent in the NFL. The Seminoles had a legendary team in 2023, where they accomplished an undefeated regular season and a conference championship.
Seminole fans were frustrated that they were left out of the College Football Playoff in favor of a one-loss Alabama squad. That still irritates some today, even when Florida State finished with a 2-10 record.
The committee left Florida State out because they thought the season-ending injury of quarterback Jordan Travis impacted their chances of success in the "invitational". Travis was a one-of-a-kind talent with the Seminoles.
No offense to Travis, even though he was a great player, he was not the entire team. That isn't to say that Brock Glenn and/or Tate Rodemaker were just as good, but that Seminoles' defense was the real deal.
Let's flashback to the ACC Championship Game versus Louisville, where Florida State had to start true freshman Brock Glenn after Rodemaker did not play in the game after suffering an injury. The Seminoles won by a score of 16-6 and the defense was the star of the show.
Defensive linemen Jared Verse and Braden Fiske had five combined sacks in the game where the defense held Louisville to 188 total yards (that is not a typo).
Luckily for Florida State fans, Verse and Fiske entered the 2024 NFL Draft and ended up being drafted by the same team (Los Angeles Rams). The Rams were thought to be rebuilding its roster after future Hall of Famer defensive lineman Aaron Donald unexpectedly retired.
Verse and Fiske have had phenomenal rookie campaigns for the Rams, where they have been in consideration for Rookie of the Year, where they have combined to have 110 total tackles (21 for loss) and 13 sacks this season.
The Rams will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings tonight in the NFC Wild Card Game at 8 PM EST on ESPN. The game will be playing in Arizona tonight due to wildfires. We at ChopChat express our thoughts and prayers to those individuals impacted by the wildfires.
