Former FSU commits shine with their respective schools over the weekend
Florida State football has been the laughingstock of college football this year, where they possess a 1-9 record where fans are just ready for the season to be over. There isn't much to be discussed in a positive light for the Seminoles, and that is difficult to say because I love the football program.
The truth is that Florida State will have to hit the reset button in 2025. This offseason will be crucial for head football coach Mike Norvell as he welcomes the Alabama Crimson Tide to Doak Campbell Stadium in the season opener.
He has already fired offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans. There will likely be more departures at season's end.
There will also be more emphasis on acquiring skilled players from the transfer portal. While I would like for the Seminoles to grab high school prospects on the recruiting trail, it will be difficult to do so with the product on the field.
However, that is the problem that Florida State faced and what likely caused the mess that they are in now. The coaching staff seemed to prioritize the transfer portal over recruiting at times. There have been several misses on the recruiting trail.
There is a laundry list of recruits that we could mention. Even though Florida State had a bye week, I painfully watched as Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter shined in their win over Utah. Hunter was committed to Florida State for a while before flipping to Deion Sanders and Jackson State on Signing Day.
Or we can highlight Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer, who had a massive win yesterday as the Fighting Illini won by a score of 38-16 to Michigan State to push them to 7-3 on the year.
This might seem like a post where I highlight an ex-significant other, and he/she became a better person after you dated them, but that is the reality of where we are as a program.
Hopefully, Florida State can turn from its ways and get back on the right track.
