The college football landscape is a whirlwind right now with all of these players transferring in and out using the portal. Meanwhile, Florida State football has struggled with staying consistent with its productive results on the gridiron.

The Seminoles have only had two winning seasons in the last eight years, which is difficult to fathom since the legendary Bobby Bowden built this place from the ground up and into a juggernaut.

Head coach Mike Norvell has had his fair share of ups and downs during his tenure at Florida State. Norvell also has to prove to himself, the fan base, and the administration that he needs to continue to be employed with the university after having seven total wins in two years.

Former wide receiver Jalen Brown gets into more off-the-field issues at new school

Head football coach Mike Norvell has had some victories on the high school recruiting trail, but losing out on former five-star prospect Jalen Brown from Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida, to LSU was a bit disappointing. The coaching staff was thought to have had a great relationship with one another.

Brown headed to play with the Tigers in 2023, but didn't record a statistic during his true freshman season after appearing in three games. As a result, the speedster entered the transfer portal, which is common for youngsters when they don't get much playing time or production.

Jalen Brown ended up at Florida State in 2024 to play for former wide receivers coach Ron Dugans, but the Seminoles had one of their worst seasons in school history, where they finished with a 2-10 record. Brown only had eight receptions for 75 yards and zero touchdowns (according to ESPN Stats and Information). The coaching staff previously raved about his elite speed, but he couldn't find the production to be successful.

He was dismissed from Florida State in the spring of 2025 following an arrest for possession of a controlled substance. Brown then decided to go to the Arkansas Razorbacks for a fresh start. He recorded 12 catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns during the 2025 season for them. Unfortunately, Brown suffered a season-ending injury against Notre Dame after playing in five games.

However, Brown found himself with more off-field issues, as he was arrested once again. The talented playmaker was arrested for hindering apprehension or prosecution and dismissed from the Razorbacks. We at ChopChat hope that the former Seminole turns his situation around and gets back on track soon!
