Former Florida State ace Parker Messick is a player lobbied for much of last year to get called up to make his Major League Debut. Messick had been dominant in the minors at every level, but for some reason, the Cleveland Guardians took their sweet time to call him up to make his debut.
However, once they made the call, Messick proved me right in a hurry. He made seven starts, going 3-1, with a 2.72 ERA. Messick had 38 strikeouts and six walks in 39.2 innings.
It looks like Messick picked up from where he left off last season through his first three starts. He’s 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA. He has 16 strikeouts and five walks in 17.2 innings, with a 0.91 WHIP. Opposing batters are only hitting .180.
Messick has made a quality start in all three outings, pitching 6.0, 5.0, and 6.2 innings in each outing.
Parker Messick looks like the next great Guardians starter so far in 2026 💪

The Cleveland Guardians owe me money because I was telling them they needed to bring him to the majors well before they did!
Messick has been a bulldog on the mound since his days at Florida State, when he was ACC Pitcher of the Year and an All-Americna. He had a low 90’s fastball with great locations, an elite change-up, and a curveball. However, his fastball has improved to 94-95 at times, with the elite change-up to keep batters off balance. Â
Messick is only 25 years old and the Guardians probably have a guy they can depend on for a while. His delivery and ability to change speeds means he's not overly dependant on the fastball. He'll eat up innings and give them a chance to win in most of his starts, and that's all you can ask from a pitcher in today's game. Congrats to Messick for a great start to the season.
