FSU FOOTBALL SUCCESS
Florida State football started the 2025 season with a bang as they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide by a score of 31-17. This made individuals think that the Seminoles were a serious College Football Playoff contender.
However, after the Seminoles have three straight losses to Virginia, Miami, and Pittsburgh, it has the fan base questioning whether Florida State can have a productive 2025 campaign.
The fans were excited to see the potential of what offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn could offer with dual-threat quarterback Thomas Castellanos playing at a high level. The Seminoles are ranked top-five in the country in points per game.
GUS BUS SMOKE TO ARKANSAS?
Head football coach Mike Norvell made a bold decision this offseason by hiring Gus Malzahn from the UCF Knights. Norvell was a graduate assistant at Tulsa, where he worked alongside Malzahn.
This relationship seemed to be a perfect match, plus the transfer acquisition of signal-caller Thomas Castellanos (whom Malzahn had a relationship during his time with the Knights) was more than the Seminoles could ask for.
It didn't look like Coach Malzahn was interested in handling all the responsibilities of being a head football coach. The adjustment to being the offensive coordinator at Florida State allowed him to focus on just worrying about the offense, which is something he excelled at.
However, it is never ruled out that he would return to being a head football coach. Former Florida and current UNLV head football coach Dan Mullen expressed that Arkansas should hire Gus Malzahn.

The Razorbacks fired Sam Pittman, and Bobby Petrino is serving as their interim head football coach for the time being. With that said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Arkansas give Coach Malzahn a phone call since he is from the area.
Florida State would probably like Malzahn to be an offensive coordinator for at least two years, but it is understandable if he tries to go back to Arkansas. Seminole fans have to worry about Tony White rumors to be the head football coach at UCLA, and then they have to go through the rumblings of Gus Malzahn at Arkansas.
This is the reality of the college football landscape.
