Week 9 is nearly here for Florida State, and the Seminoles will be tasked with defending Doak Campbell Stadium against the Clemson Tigers. The Seminoles have lost their last two meetings with the Tigers, and the team is currently riding into the clash on a two-game losing streak.
The 2026 season has been an unsuccessful one thus far for the Seminoles, with a 3-4 record and just one win against an ACC opponent. Frankly, losing is not an option for Florida State with a Clemson team struggling with many of the same issues coming to town.
The Tigers are currently 4-3 this season, with two significant losses to the likes of LSU and Miami that exposed the gaps in roster budgeting. Clemson has been able to hang with ACC competition, spending roughly the same on their rosters, like North Carolina and California, but the team is still not good enough or consistent enough to beat the best in the FBS. Sounds familiar, right?
It is a big game for the Seminoles with a chance to end the losing skid with a win in front of the home crowd, but there are some concerns. All three starting linebackers are on the initial injury report for the week, and some of the top backup options are also on the report. Starters Chris Jones, Mikai Gbayor, and Omar Graham Jr. are expected to play, but the condition each player is in is less than ideal.
Florida State is hurting for a win at the moment to potentially get back into a groove and block out some of the outside noise. Defeating Clemson is not going to turn anyone into a newfound Norvell supporter, but this team needs to start winning games to make keeping the coach around feel even remotely like the right decision.
The game is also going to serve as an important recruiting tool, with 26 recruits and counting set to visit campus during the game. The Seminoles' staff will have a few flip targets and a handful of top 2028 recruits, so looking competitive and cohesive against Clemson is vital.
