Florida State football had a 5-7 record during the 2025 season, where they lost seven of their last nine games to end the year. This was not a finish that the Seminole fan base wanted to witness after the program had a 2-10 disaster in 2024.
While the squad showed improvement from year to year, Florida State is known as a university that has championship expectations. Head football coach Mike Norvell has been with the Seminoles for six years and is entering his seventh season after the administration elected to retain him in 2026.

Jake Weinberg is predicted to flip to the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes
When Mike Norvell was hired as the head football coach at Florida State, he mentioned that special teams would be the foundation of the program. He was technically right, special teams play had a huge impact on the 2025 season.
For example, we can look to the brutal North Carolina State road game, where the Seminoles had two punt return blunders, which ultimately led to the Wolfpack's victory.
We already saw starting punter Mac Chiumento commit to the Texas Longhorns. Then, starting kicker Jake Weinberg decided to enter the transfer portal. The redshirt freshman connected on 12 of his 19 field goal attempts. Weinberg ended the year on a sour note, as he only made four of his nine field goals.
Florida State fans saw the resurrection of former kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, who struggled early in his career and bounced back, where he is now kicking for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. However, it stings that On3's Stephen Wagner put in a prediction in favor of the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes for the talented kicker.
While it is close to where Weinberg is from, it would be unfortunate to see him succeed in Coral Gables.
