Florida State football fans haven’t had much to cheer about on the recruiting front over the past few months. The Noles have gotten one 2027 commit over the past three months.

The coaching staff lost its top quarterback target to Notre Dame over the weekend, and the competition for Florida State’s top 2027 commit just got tougher:

Florida State needs to keep Williams in the class. An in-state talented that's been committed for over a year.

Four-star safety commit Mekhi Williams is the 2027 commit who’s been committed the longest, originally committing to FSU on March 26, 2025. He’ll take an official visit to FSU on June 5th. He also has official visits set for Wisconsin on May 29th, Nebraska on June 12th, and Miami on June 19th.

Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Colorado, and others have offered the talented prospect. However, it’ll be interesting to see how the LSU offer changes things. Will he bump a Nebraska or Wisconsin now that LSU is in the picture? He might visit all of those schools, but I’d imagine at least one will likely fall out of the picture.

How will Florida State react to the news? LSU has deep pockets and a new head coach with that new car smell. The Noles got their top prospect on campus this spring. However, they got their top quarterback target on campus a couple of times this spring, and it didn’t matter when Notre Dame came calling.

It seems like Florida State is between a rock and a hard place with Mike Norvell. Teams can negatively recruit against Florida State all day, given the situation and how this season could go. These SEC and B1G teams also have tons of money to throw around freely. This offer seems like one to keep an eye on, not to mention Miami. Hopefully, Florida State can get some momentum on the recruiting trails soon and keep Williams in the class.
